The Common Tomorrow

A monumental civic assembly hall honoring the founding cooperatives of Polara, a lagoon city constructed wholly from plastics and inspired by the communal optimism of 1970s futurism. One broad, low, flattened oval dome has its long axis east-west. The pristine ivory gelcoat shell curves downward at its perimeter into a thick continuous rolled lip, with no roof tower, spire or rooftop equipment. Four broad synthetic-fiber composite supports, positioned at the northeast, northwest, southeast and southwest quadrants, flare upward from thick feet to meet the shell's underside. They stand outside a smaller recessed oval drum of continuous smoked amber acrylic glazing, creating a sheltered perimeter arcade. Deep composite shell ribs and concealed aramid tension members make the broad span plausible without exposed metal.

The dome overhang is especially generous on the south long side, where a broad shallow polymer ramp crosses a low oval podium to a pair of recessed persimmon portals. The ramp is flanked by smoothly integrated cream benches whose outer ends turn around the podium edge. At the north rear, two smaller persimmon service doors are separated by an opaque ivory panel and short molded ventilation slots beneath the glazing band. At the east and west curved ends, the smoked window band remains continuous between the structural supports; repeated recessed glazing joints give the drum a calm rhythm. A small molded circular cooperative emblem, formed from six interlocking raised polymer loops, sits on the solid panel between the south portals.

A warm translucent polymer lighting strip follows the entire underside of the curled roof lip, recessed behind its outer edge and interrupted only by narrow opaque joint collars. Keep the shell pale and opaque, the glazing deeply shaded and the foundation visibly a broad molded polymer podium. All benches, ramp, roof, structural supports, glazing, doors, seals and fasteners are plastic or synthetic-fiber polymer composite. No stone, concrete, metal, glass or timber; no separate sculpture, landscape scene or additional buildings. The prestige comes from the clean uninterrupted molding, fine joints and generous shared shelter.
